Cattle ranching

At 18 years of age Malan was already responsible for the

cattle on his father’s remote farm. Miles from anywhere, and

alone in a lightly fenced wilderness.

In learning to survive, to protect his cattle and staff, hunting

became second nature and grew into a passion as the value of

his sustainable farming practices saw excellent returns, and

growing wildlife populations.

To store the regions most valuable asset - water, Malan built

dams, and maintained the low cattle fences which allowed

free wildlife movement. Over the years these dams

transformed his property, and with the increasing value of

wildlife, cattle ranching gave way to game ranching.

Game ranching

A hunter since the age of 7, with his teen years spent

managing the ranch, Malan knew it was time to expand and

after developing the hunting infrastructure, his dreams

became a reality in 1994, when Arub Safaris was born. This

paradise was soon opened to international hunting and

photographic safaris.

Malan is a licensed Big Game Professional Hunter, and is

recognised as a Rowland Ward & SCI Life member and

SCI measurer.

His wife Barista, manages the lodge and staff in a manner

dedicated to your comfort. Their twin boys, Tertius & Ruben,

take after their dad and will join the hunting truck without

being asked twice.
